SPECIAL AND LENSED HORN ANTENNAS

Seavey Engineering has delivered hundreds of unique and innovative horn antennas for special requirements. Our computer-aided design tools permit accurate EM modeling of all types of horn throats, flares and lenses. Dual and quad-ridged styles and complex feed arrangements can be analyzed. The following pages reflect only some of the unique horn designs delivered to date.

For gain standard pyramidal horns see Page 23. For diagonal horns see Page 97. For dual-ridged horns see Page 100. For quad-ridged horns see Page 101 and for high power horns see Page 56 - 57.

Lensed Horns
Cylindrical dielectric lenses are added to horn edges to broaden the beamwidth in the plane perpendicular to the lens axis (see Patent 4,065,772). Toroidal-shaped lenses broaden the beam in two planes (see Patent 4,636,798). Zoned plano-convex lenses are applied over short horns to compensate for phase error and to increase gain. Dielectric material on internal flare walls can create moding to shape the beam.

Offset Cylindrical Horn-Parabola
This unique antenna uses a 2-dimensional offset parabolic reflector to form a highly directive elevation beam. In azimuth, the beam is formed with a metal flare. With the addition of cylindrical lenses along the vertical aperture edges, azimuth beamwidths of 90° can be achieved. This is an attractive antenna for sectorized base station use. Seavey Engineering has produced these antennas in a wide range of frequencies and beamwidths; dual linear polarization can be used with this design.
