This section contains information on parabolic reflector antennas fed from the vertex using a circular waveguide and a "splash-plate" feed arrangement.
This simple, compact design allows the antenna to have any desired polarization, including orthogonal linear, orthogonal circular and variable linear. This type of antenna is quite suited to applications where the reflector is gimbal-mounted because the swept volume can be reduced. Although limited in efficiency to about 50%, this style of reflector antenna finds wide applications in many microwave communications systems. Please refer to Pages 30 and 46 for other examples.
The following is a representative listing of backfire-fed reflector antennas. Variations to suit your requirements are readily available. All RF ports are waveguide flanges located behind the reflector vertex.
