Seavey Engineering offers polarizers with four different functions: a "quarter-wave" type, a "half-wave" type, a "remote linear" type, and a "four-state" type.
Quarter-wave polarizers (Type 1) convert incident orthogonal linear polarized fields into orthogonal circular polarized fields with low insertion loss and low axial ratio. They are useful in assembling antenna feed chains for INTELSAT operation, for example.
Half-wave polarizers (Type 2) convert incident orthogonal linear polarized fields into another set of orthogonal linear polarized fields at a different spatial angle. They are used when it is necessary to couple signals from a stationary component such as a transmitter/receiver to the antenna and still be able to align the antenna polarization to that of the satellite. Polarization rotation is twice the device rotation angle.
Remote linear polarizers (Type 3) rotate a special "probe" in a circular waveguide cavity to change the plane of polarization of the TE11-mode; this mode is excited by an integral rectangular waveguide adaptor. Rotation is accomplished with a small DC motor with an angular position feedback loop and can be controlled up to 200 feet away.
Four-state polarizers (Type 4) combine the Type 1 quarter-wave device with the Type 3 device. They allow remote selection of either vertical, horizontal, right-hand or left-hand circular polarization. All components interface with a circular waveguide and have good impedance match, low axial ratio and low cross-polarization. Circular polarizers require no adjustments. Half-wave polarizers are manually adjusted by the user to the desired polarization, and feature O-ring seals at waveguide flanges. Remote linear polarizers are operated from a small control box, Model No. SC-10AC. |
